Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Systems Administrator to join an exciting  team. In this position you will be responsible for providing technical support within the team of Systems Administrators. Areas of support include but are not limited to; LINUX (RedHat) administration, shell scripting, AIX administration, Vmware, LINUX backup and recovery, server network configuration, logical volume management, LINUX clustering, hardware setup and troubleshooting, system log management, AIX/LINUX OS patching and upgrading, LDAP, hardening of systems. Support includes specification, installation, and testing of computer systems within established standards and guidelines. Expected to work independently within management and company guidelines. The System Administrator will have mentoring responsibility for other System Administrators, Desktop and Helpdesk Support Technical positions. The System Administrator will work with management in establishing processes, controls, security, and strategy around system support initiatives. Responsible for the configuration and maintenance of the LDAP installations. Also will be responsible to create and maintain various LINUX scripts in languages like bash, PHP, Perl and others, encompassing various levels of complexity. Candidate will be required to work after hours and on the weekends as necessary. On call rotation required. Regular office hours on Eastern Time.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Installs and maintains operating systems and related software to ensure stable performance
  • Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels
  • Ensures workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions
  • Work with the backup administrator to ensure data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations
  • Develops and promotes standard operating procedures
  • Evaluates system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility
  • Troubleshoots networking and operating systems problems
  • Incorporate Information Security Best Practices in all aspects of Systems Management
  • Mentoring of other Technical Support staff
  • Works with and understands the roles of members of other departments
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer of system support procedures and nuances
  • Recommendations in design and new system specification
  • Responsibility for high complexity enterprise systems
  • Lead role in a wide area of technical expertise
  • Mentoring of other technical support staff
  • Server Patch and security governance
  • Performs other duties as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’ s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent experience, required
  • Three years’ experience in Linux administration and scripting
  • Two years’ experience in AIX/LPAR administration and scripting

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Effectively communicate in English; both oral and written
  • Interpret a variety of communications (verbal, non-verbal, written, listening and visual)
  • Maintain confidentiality, discretion and caution when handling sensitive information
  • Multi-task along with attention to detail
  • Self-motivation, organized, time-management and deductive problem solving skills
  • Strong analytical skills

  • Knowledge of VMware, AIX and LINUX (RedHat) operating environments, as well as exposure to industry products, terminology and trends
