SUMMARY:
The Cable Station Engineer is required to operate and maintain cable systems at Cable Landing Stations of underwater fiber optic telecommunications networks. This would include diagnosing and locating troubles, performing the repair and maintenance, and restoring service for optimal customer satisfaction.
The Cable Station Engineer serves as a subject matter expert and a key point of contact with the Subsea Network Operations Center (Subsea NOC) in managing technical problems through to resolution. Must be able to work with customers from around the world.
During subsea cable faults the incumbent works directly with the cable ship and the Subsea NOC to support fault location and repair activity. The incumbent is in most cases the power safety officer.
Periodically the incumbent is required to install and perform testing of new cable systems. The individual exercises independent judgment and usually works under minimal supervision to perform Station Management functions, when required and in the absence of the Cable Station Manager. This position has a global focus and the incumbent must be fluent in English. Spanish and/or Portuguese are a plus.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fault Analysis, Diagnosis, Repair Management, Developing solutions, and Reporting
Identify and diagnose problems; evaluate whether they are service affecting and establish priorities for resolution, especially when there are concurrent troubles. Able to operate confidently online Systems/Networks, while analyzing, locating and reporting faults in a logical, timely manner. Be able to see fault through to satisfactory conclusion, working at times with minimal supervision. Ensure proper organizational attention to the problem via corrective action or escalation.
Routine Maintenance of Subsea &Transmission Equipment, Building, and Power Systems
Proactive and reactive to the routine requirements of the Cable Station. Able to maintain/manage the Cable Station following Cable Station Operation Routine Guidelines. Perform first line periodic maintenance on all associated support equipment within the Cable Station observing outlined Method of Procedures. Regular inspection of the beach manhole to Cable Landing Station (CLS) route of the Outside Side Plant (OSP). Perform ongoing post event analysis on cable systems and equipment.
Provide Technical Support
Provide Troubleshooting assistance in Fault Analysis, developing solutions to specific issues. Train and teach other personnel at CLS. Participate as one of the team in providing coverage at the CLS.
Cable Landing Station Administration
Business focused and security conscious when dealing with company/customer data information. Maintaining the accuracy of Station Circuit Records. Completing and maintaining the Station Inventory Control. Monitor and complete Station Event Logs.
Liaison and Interface with vendors, contractors and others.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION / CREDENTIALS:
Technical college degree or equivalent professional experience. Additional education in technical course works a strong plus, such as undersea technology, optical systems technology, power feed systems, optical and transmission test equipment and computer applications.

- Able to operate capably on System/Network problems, while analyzing, locating and reporting faults in a logical, timely manner. Be able to lead the work effort to see fault through to satisfactory conclusion, while utilizing any suitable test equipment supplied. To work under minimal supervision
- Able to operate all Cable Station Management Systems, for administration, fault location, and proactive maintenance. Must be able to work with Subsea NOC, using specified Cable Station Guidelines. Reacting to calls both ON-NET and OFF-NET, within expected service level criteria. Must be proactive and reactive to maintenance requirements within the Cable Station. Monitor outside plant activity and be prepared to facilitate emergency repairs if required.
- Has an in-depth knowledge within this position to provide technical support to best serve the local staff and Cirion. Willing to work within the region to assist and/or train CLS and Point Of Presence (POP) personnel.
- Able to maintain and manage the Cable Station while following Cable Station Operation routine guidelines to ensure completion of Daily Routine Checks. To update any Log/Record details required. Perform first Line periodic maintenance on all associated support equipment. Adhere to Electrical Safety Procedure (ESP) and Security procedures.
